As a first-year student-athlete, I have learned that the most important part of our program is the element of team. Our team is founded on dedication and integrity to our academics and athletic performance. Contributing to our program will amplify our potential for the competitive seasons ahead of us. The PLU XC/T&F team is preparing for yet another successful competitive year.

Who We Are
The Pacific Lutheran University Track & Field and Cross Country teams provide opportunities for young women and men to compete in athletics at the NCAA Division III level while receiving an outstanding education. Our primary goal is to provide opportunities for personal development and growth that enhance the overall educational experience. We aim to set student-athletes up for success in life and career beyond PLU! We also believe there is much to learn through pursuing our competitive goals and that it is fun to run fast, throw far and jump high/far.
History and Recent Success
The PLU Track & Field and Cross Country Teams have a rich tradition of success, combining for 54 Northwest Conference Team Championships and 214 All-Americans. Our goal is to again compete with the best in the NWC and NCAA DIII. We believe we are on our way to achieving that goal. Recent accomplishments include:
- 2016 NWC T&F Champions: Richard Johnson, Men's 100m. Men's 4x100m relay.
- 2nd-place team finish for Men's XC at 2016 NWC Championships (best finish since 1998)
- Brad Hodkinson - NWC and NCAA West Region Champion and NCAA DIII All American (first XC All-American since 2001)
- 18 new women on 2017 T&F roster
The Goal
Our goal is to upgrade our equipment and apparel and fund travel for special trips. With your support, we can provide an outstanding experience for PLU student-athletes and attract the prospective students we need to return to the top tier of the NWC. Thanks to Laurie Turner, Director of Athletics, we were able to purchase a new pole vault pit for the season. We hope to purchase a matching high jump pit as well as new apparel and funding travel.
Budget Breakdown:
$7,000 - High Jump Pit
$3,000 - Travel Bags
$4,000 - XC Pre-season Trip (Went to Mt. Baker area in 2016)
$2,000 - Travel for "Last Chance" T&F meets (Oregon Twilight @ Hayward Field, Portland Twilight)
Impact of Your Donation
Your support will directly enhance the student-athlete experience at PLU. Upgraded equipment will improve the safety, functionality and visual appeal of our facility. Supplementing our travel budget allows us to travel more student-athletes to regular season meets as well as helping our top athletes find the competitive opportunities they need to reach their potential. With your support, we can provide a truly special experience for the Lutes!
